How Purry works

What happens from the moment you find a cat to the day you bring one home, and what a seller does to get listed.

Purry is a marketplace for cats and kittens from verified breeders and individual sellers. It is not a shop: you deal with the seller, and you never pay before you have seen the cat, on a live video call or in person.

That one rule, pay only after you have seen the cat, explains most of what follows.

Why find your cat on Purry

Finding your next cat should be exciting, not a guessing game. Purry brings together verified people and the details that matter, so you can make a better-informed choice.

  • Every seller is verified.

    Every seller is verified.

Breeders and individual sellers must pass a photo ID check through Stripe before their listings go public. Breeders can also have their cattery registration checked against TICA, CFA, or their country's registry by a real person, earning the Registry Checked badge.

  • Buyers are real too.

    Buyers are real too.

Every buyer verifies their mobile number before contacting sellers. Both sides know they're connecting through a verified account.

  • Reviews from people who actually took a cat home.

Reviews from people who actually took a cat home.

Only buyers whose cat went home with them, as recorded on Purry, can leave a review. No random ratings from people who never bought a cat.

  • More than just a cute photo.

More than just a cute photo.

Every cat on Purry has a profile, and breeders' cats come with parents, past litters and a living family tree you can click through, generation by generation. Get to know the cat and the people behind the listing.

  • Every conversation in one place.

    Every conversation in one place.

Message breeders and sellers inside Purry, so questions, photos, reservations and reviews stay together in one thread. No lost emails, no phone numbers shared until you both choose to.

Verification confirms who someone is, not how they will behave. It makes scams much harder, and it is still your judgment that matters most: meet the cat, read the reviews, and never pay before you have seen the cat on a live call or in person.

We built Purry because we're cat people, too. We believe finding your next companion should feel exciting, clear, and personal.

If you are looking for a cat

  1. Someone browsing a grid of cat photos on a laptop, under a search bar.

    Step 1

    Search and compare

Verified sellers and the details that matter. Filter by breed, age, sex, coat, color, price and distance. Save the cats you like, then compare up to three side by side. Cats from breeders and individual sellers sit together, and the chip on each says which is which.

  2. A phone showing a conversation between a buyer and a seller whose picture is a tabby cat.

    Step 2

    Message the seller

Ask about health testing, the parents, and when you could visit. Conversations stay on Purry, so there is a record of what was agreed.

  3. A cream and seal point longhaired cat with a bookmark badge marking it as reserved.

    Step 3

    Ask to reserve

This sends the seller a message saying you are interested and roughly when you could visit. It does not hold the cat (only the seller can reserve one), and it costs nothing.

  4. A woman holding a tabby cat close, a cat carrier and the seller beside her.

    Step 4

    Meet the cat

Visit where the cat lives, in person or by live video at the very least. Pay the seller directly once you are sure. A breeder may ask for a deposit to hold a kitten, and the rules for that are below.

  5. A five-star review from a buyer, beside a cat with a verified check mark.

    Step 5

    Leave a review

Only buyers who took a cat home can review a seller. When the seller marks the cat Found a home for you, your review gets a verified badge. If they have not, press "[Name] is home with me" in your conversation. It appears once the cat was reserved for you or the listing is no longer Available. You can review after the seller confirms, or after seven days if they do not dispute it.

Finding a cat goes through the search in more detail, and Staying safe is worth reading before you send anybody money.

Who decides a cat is reserved

The seller does. Asking to reserve opens a conversation; it changes nothing about the listing, and a cat that is reserved for somebody else can still be asked about, because arrangements fall through.

When a seller does reserve a cat for you, the listing shows as Reserved to everyone else and your conversation says who it is being held for. There is no timer. A seller can note a date they are holding until; we remind them on the day, and nothing changes on its own. They put the cat back to available by saying so, and you are emailed when they do.

A seller can also send you a request for a deposit or the full price, which you pay on Purry's pay page; payments are processed through the seller's own Stripe account. A deposit they record as paid outside Purry is their own note, and you are asked to confirm it.

Deposits. Verified breeders often take a deposit to hold a kitten or a place on a future litter, and that's normal. Before you pay one: have a live video call where you see the cattery, the parents and the kitten if it's born; get a written contract that states the deposit amount and when it's refundable; and make sure the payment goes to the name you verified. Never pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire transfer.

Individual sellers have had their ID verified, but no registry checks them. Don't send money before you have met the cat in person.

If anyone pushes for money before a live call, adds fees after the deposit, or insists on a payment method you can't reverse, stop and report the listing.

Expected litters. A seller can list a litter before it is born, with a due date, the parents and the expected colors. You can ask to reserve from it the same way as a listed cat: the conversation opens, and the seller can add you to the litter's waitlist, in order, and record a deposit if you agree one. When the kittens arrive the seller lists them individually and assigns them to the waitlist, and your place becomes a reservation on a specific kitten. Every kitten is its own listing, with its own price and photos, and the litter's page shows them together.

What Purry checks, and what it doesn't

Finding a cat should feel exciting, not uncertain. That's why Purry verifies sellers, checks a cattery's registration when the breeder adds one, and helps buyers and sellers connect with more confidence.

But verification has its limits. Here's what we check, what we don't, and a few things you should always look into yourself.

What Purry checks

Every seller is identity verified. Before a seller can publish a listing, they complete a photo ID check through Stripe and verify their mobile number. That's what our Verified on Purry badge means.

Cattery registrations are checked by a person. When you see Registry Checked, it means someone at Purry has checked the cattery's registration against the listed registry's records, such as TICA or CFA. It confirms the registration check, not the quality of the breeder.

Buyers verify their mobile numbers, too. Every buyer must verify a mobile number before messaging a seller. It's one more way we help keep fake accounts and spam out of conversations.

Reviews are tied to Purry connections. Only buyers who took a cat home from the seller, as recorded on Purry, can leave a review: the seller marked the cat Found a home for them, or they said the cat is home and the seller confirmed it or did not dispute it within seven days. Reviews aren't open to just anyone, although Purry doesn't independently verify every sale.

What Purry doesn't check

We believe in being clear about what our badges mean.

  • We don't inspect catteries. We don't visit breeders or evaluate their facilities, breeding practices, or the conditions in which their cats are raised.
  • We don't verify medical or pedigree documents. Sellers may share health tests, vaccination records, and pedigrees, but Purry doesn't independently authenticate them.
  • Registration isn't an endorsement. Being registered with TICA, CFA, or another organization doesn't necessarily mean a breeder meets particular standards of care.
  • We can't guarantee every outcome. Verification doesn't guarantee a cat's health, temperament, pedigree, or the outcome of a transaction.

A few things to check before bringing a cat home

Even with verified sellers, it's worth taking a little time to get to know the cat and the person behind the listing.

Meet the cat. Arrange a live video call or an in-person visit. For young kittens, ask to see their mother and the environment where they're being raised.

Ask about the parents. Learn about their health, temperament, and any breed-specific conditions. Ask to see them or recent videos when possible.

Look at the health records. Request vaccination and veterinary records, along with any relevant genetic or health testing results.

Understand the paperwork. Ask whether registration certificates, breeder slips, pedigrees, or other documents are included, and when you'll receive them.

Get the details in writing. A written agreement should explain what's included, any health guarantee, and what happens if something goes wrong.

Be careful with payments. Whenever possible, meet the cat before paying. Some sellers accept payment through Purry, which is processed through the seller's own Stripe account. Others arrange payment with you directly. Either way, Purry doesn't hold your money or provide payment protection. Use a payment method with buyer protections, such as a credit card, and avoid gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers or other payments that are hard to recover.

Trust your instincts. Be cautious if someone pressures you to pay quickly, refuses a reasonable video call, or gives you conflicting information.

Something doesn't feel right?

We're here to help keep Purry a better place for everyone. If you come across a suspicious listing, misleading information, or behavior that concerns you, please report it to us.

Real cats. Real people. Better-informed connections.

If you are selling a cat

There are two kinds of seller, and only two.

Breeder plan sellers pay $17.99 a month billed yearly ($215.88 a year), or $24.99 month to month, and the first month is free. You subscribe, add a card (nothing is charged until your free month ends, and we email you 3 days before), verify your ID with Stripe and verify your mobile number before anything of yours goes public. Every seller verifies their ID; breeders can also have their registry (TICA, CFA, ACFA, CCA-AFC, or your country's registry) checked by a person for the Registry Checked chip. You get unlimited listings that never expire, a hosted site at yourname.purry.app, the Verified on Purry badge on every listing, and you can connect your own domain at no extra charge.

Individual is $5 per listing, with the first listing free until January 13, 2027, for individuals rehoming a cat, rescues, and anyone selling without a cattery. Free-to-a-good-home listings pay the same $5. You verify a phone number and your ID with Stripe before anything of yours goes public. As many listings as you like, each priced up to $1,000 and running 60 days.

Getting verified is the step most people have questions about, and What it costs has the numbers in one place: for breeders, Getting verified and What it costs; for individual sellers, Getting verified and What it costs.

What Purry does not do

No escrow, no shipping arranged by us, and no cut of what a cat sells for. A payment through Purry goes to the seller's own Stripe account.

Purry makes money from seller subscriptions and listing fees and nothing else, so nothing on this site has a reason to push you towards a sale.

For sellers

  • A verified badge on every listing: your ID checked. Breeders can add the Registry Checked chip too.
  • The Breeder plan includes a hosted cattery site at yourname.purry.app.
  • No commission. Purry never takes a cut of what a cat sells for.
